Ontario StressCrete, a utility pole manufacturer, was founded. The original poles they manufactured were static cast tapered square. In their day, they were considered upgrades from standard wood.

Manufacturing of the original poles ceased and the company invested in spinning technology, which not only enabled them to produce a round cross section, but also vastly improved the strength and durability of the product. This transition also enabled the company to expand into the regional market, manufacturing product for Southern Ontario and the state of Michigan. During this time, the product line grew to include power distribution, sub-station structures, hi-mast, sports lighting and strain poles, as well as the original lighting poles.
StressCrete purchases Barratt Spun Concrete Poles in Niagara Falls, a company that had moved into a more decorative line of lighting poles that primarily serviced the U.S. market, and fit well with StressCrete's growth plans. Recognizing the growth movement toward traditional and historic outdoor lighting, StressCrete designed and purchased molds that would enable them to supply this demand.
